The Awkward Silences are London based Outsider Pop Mavericks who’ve drawn comparisons with Ian Dury, The Fall and Daniel Johnston.

Lead singer Paul Hawkins draws upon his experiences growing up as one of few disabled children in a small village and the sense of ‘otherness’ that created to write songs about outsiders, misfits and the struggles and joys of not fitting in with the rest of society. Meanwhile the band draw on influences ranging from Post-Punk to Disco to Surf-Rock to provide a catchy and gloriously lop-sided backdrop to Hawkins’ blackly comic narratives.

The Awkward Silences aim to be a band like no other band, writing songs that no other band would write. They strive to always be interesting and entertaining and want our gigs to be accessible, inclusive spaces where anyone can come along, feel comfortable and have a good time
