In 2023 alone, we managed to eliminate 45,000 kilos of CO2 emissions through our reusable cup scheme – a mammoth statistic that proves just how important this has been towards our sustainable future. We also reduced our loss rate with our token scheme, saving over 50,000 cups in total.
This year, the reusable scheme will return once again, together with the token system for the times when you don’t want to carry around an empty cup. Cups can be exchanged for tokens at the bars or with our roaming Leave Nothing But Memories crew so you can concentrate on having a good time!
We have partnered with Event Cup Solutions, a Climate-Certified company, who provide the cups and wash them locally using water efficient machines, at facilities powered by renewable energy. The remaining carbon impact is off-set by green initiatives.
This year we are introducing the first ever circular economy scheme with betternotstop so any broken cups will be ground down and turned into something amazing for Kendal Calling 2025.
To further reduce waste we have invested more in the tech behind the scenes on the bars to ensure we are serving draft beer and cider across site to reduce packaged items ie. cans. Not only do we believe this has cut down dramatically on the tonnage of discarded packaging but it also ensures a proper product, served in a proper reusable glass!
HOW IT WORKS…
1. You pay a ONE-OFF charge of £2 on top of the price of your first drink, this covers the rental of the cup for the whole festival. You shouldn’t need to pay this more than once.
2. Keep a hold of your cup and exchange it for a new one the next time it’s your round! If you don’t want to carry your cup around, you can exchange it at the bars for a token instead, this can then be redeemed for a cup later on. This prevents you from paying another £2.
At the end of the festival, hand the cup back to a dedicated collection point so that we can reuse the cup at the next event, keeping the circular economy moving.
And better still, for every 1,000 cups returned, Event Cup Solutions will plant a tree in the UK!
