IMPORTANT TRAFFIC UPDATE – PLEASE READ – 19TH JUNE 2024
Hello everyone! It’s that time of year again – incredibly, we have just over six weeks to go ‘til we descend on Lowther Deer Park and so we have our all important travel update.
Those of you who are local will know the roads around this beautiful part of the country are often not built for such high levels of traffic and we want to ensure that you are all well informed so your journey to the festival is as smooth and enjoyable as the festival itself.
Traffic in and around Penrith naturally surges towards the end of the week, this is compounded by additional traffic due to the changeover of customers at the local Centre Parcs alongside the influx of Kendal Callers to the area. Due to this, at times there will be delays however there are a few things that you guys can do to help us keep a steady flow of traffic and ensure arriving is as hassle free as the festival itself!
Plan Ahead:
- If arriving on Friday, please try and arrive at the festival outside of the peak traffic hours of the local area, 12.00-18.00. Last year, we opened the campsites earlier, at 08:00 on the Friday and found this helped massively with reducing traffic and so will be doing this once again. Make sure to leave for the festival early doors. The music begins from 12:00 so you’ll want to give yourself ample time to get in, get camped up and ready to enjoy the weekend.
- Better still, arrive on Thursday at your leisure, when we expect a much steadier flow of traffic throughout the day. On Thursday, the campsites will open from 09:00 and the arena and music will open from 17:00 meaning you don’t necessarily have to arrive super early doors! Ensuring a more relaxed start to the festival with plenty of time to get set up, grab a beer with your mates and of course, catch Paul Heaton & Rianne Downey, Declan McKenna, The Hunna & more. Thursday tickets are available here!
- Book your parking ticket in advance. This not only saves you money (£18 in advance, £35 on the day) but more importantly purchasing in advance means you will receive a hanger in the post which is to be displayed in your rear view mirror (campsite initials side facing outward) minimizing any pay on the gate delays and allowing our staff to send you in the right direction. This is the single most important thing you can do to help us keep traffic moving!
- Please ensure you have the correct parking pass. If you have booked an upgraded campsite add on such as Emperors Field, Deer Lodge, Great Plains or Tangerine Fields – all of these campsites have their own car parks and will require the corresponding parking pass. Likewise, if you have not purchased an upgraded campsite add on, you will be able to camp in any of our general campsites and will require a general parking pass.
Stay Informed:
- Follow our dedicated Twitter account, @inthefieldsLIVE for live updates on traffic conditions, parking availability, and alternative routes and a whole host of useful information over the festival weekend to ensure you have the latest information at your fingertips.
Follow these tips:
- As you approach the festival, please ensure your sat nav is off and follow all signage for Kendal Calling and your relevant car park.
- Please ensure your car park hanger is clearly displayed in your rear view mirror, this massively helps us speed up entry to the festival.
- Please ensure that you have water and maybe some food in your vehicle – just in case you get thirsty or hungry!
Finally, if you see any fellow Kendal Callers broken down and blocking traffic approaching the festival, please tweet us @inthefieldsLIVE so we can inform other festivalgoers.
Together we can make the festival one to remember!
