We are thrilled to announce the full line-up for the EARACHE TAKEOVER of Yam Riot at Kendal Calling! Summer 2022 sees the long-anticipated debut at Kendal Calling for Earache after the takeover was originally plotted for 2020 and will see a stacked line up of fresh alternative acts. Earache is on a mission to bring heavy music to more mainstream festivals and the Kendal Calling takeover comes in the slipstream of Glastonbury Festival where Earache has been ‘bringing the heavy’ to the famous Shangri La field since 2017.
Earache will take over the Yam Riot stage and will be the late-night after party, giving people chance to mosh into the small hours and get down and dirty to some of the noisiest bands on the UK scene alongside some classic bangers from the finest rock DJs. Joining the previously announced headliners of Massive Wagons, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs and Hacktivist, this new line up reveal includes two new acts in Trap Metal prodigy BVDLVD and the savage hardcore-nu metal fusion of Death Blooms. Across the takeover, those in the tent will be treated to the potent atmosphere conjured by post-hardcore outfit Svalbard, the fierce Brat Punk of Delilah Bon and the electrifying grime metal of Hacktivist. The line-up also welcomes Nosebleed, Millie Manders and the Shut Up, Paula Frost, Tasmin Taylor, Hang the DJs as well as other beloved members of the Earache family: Scarlet Rebels & The Dust Coda.
Opening night headliners Massive Wagons will be performing fresh off of the news of their newly announced album ‘TRIGGERED!’ and newly unleashed track and video “Fuck The Haters”. Frontman Barry “Baz” Mills enthuses: “‘Really really stoked to be playing Kendal Calling, I love that Earache put stages into festivals to help crossover genres, we wanna play for new people as much as possible, and there aren’t many opportunities at festivals for heavier bands to be honest unless it’s a specific rock, metal fest, being able to play Kendal Calling is a great opportunity to melt some new faces!”
Tom Hadfield, Earache Records’ Head of Live, says of the takeover: “Can’t wait to get up to the Lake District and get the Earache Takeover underway. We want to offer something a bit different and heavier to the norm and hopefully our line up does that. See you in the mosh pit!”

All you need to know before you venture into the fields!
At Kendal Calling, we believe everyone should be able to enjoy festivals, even those who may be put off by the idea of ‘roughing it’ in a field for a few days! While often that is all part of the fantastic festival experience, we know many would enjoy a few extras to help make their stay a little more comfortable. If this sounds like a bit of you, then you’re in the right place!
upgrade to great plains or emperors field
Our upgraded campsites sell out quickly every year but fortunately we’re going to be running a re-sale at the end of May! So you have chance to sign up and secure your spot!
Emperor’s Fields is for those after a few more comforts as this is a quiet area, ideal for families. It includes free car parking adjacent to the campsite, access to free hot showers, compost toilets, extra camping space and your own arena entrance.
Great Plains is our sister campsite to Emperor’s Fields! Located adjacent to our Deer Lodge campsite. If you wish to bring your own tents, kick back and relax at the festival with all the amenities and benefits of Emperor’s Fields then this is the campsite for you. It includes free car parking adjacent to the campsite, access to free hot showers, compost toilets, extra camping space and your own arena entrance.
Camping not your style? Well, we’ve got just the thing for you! Treat yourself to a stay in our Deer Lodge boutique camp site! With memory foam mattresses, luxury duvets, eye masks, built in lights and even a door mat, you’ll find yourself right at home. Plus if you book today, you can split the cost over the next three months!
Away from the hustle and bustle of the festival, from the electric atmosphere and beat of the music, lies the magical Garden of Eden.
Achy feet from dancing in your wellies? One too many drinks from our real ale bar last night? No problem, just get down to the Garden of Eden and let us melt your worries away…then get back out there and do it all again! Our practitioners are on hand all weekend to offer festival goers a calm and nourishing place to revitalize, and a chance to unwind and relax before diving back into the energy of the festival.
Want to look your Sunday best every day? Pop along to the Soap Opera and get yourself a lovely hot shower and indulge yourself in the pamper lounge, with hair dryers, straighteners and mirrors!
We know festival toilets aren’t for everyone and while we endeavour to keep ours as clean as possible throughout the weekend, we know that many would like something a little more familiar! For just £15, you can book your posh privy for the full weekend helping give you that extra peace of mind
Gone are the days of struggling with luggage from the car park to your pitch, the Jolly Green Sherpas will once again be coming to Kendal to transport your luggage for you.
No need to book in advance for this one, just keep an eye out in the car park when you arrive, plus for each sale, they plant a tree via a non-profit reforestation project!
All you need to know before you venture into the fields!
It’s been a few years since we partied in those famous fields and many of you may not have had the chance to join us for the biggest party in the Lakes, so we’ve knuckled down and pulled together a shortlist of can’t miss activities at Kendal Calling!
Venture into the magical world of lost eden
Lost Eden is the jewel in Kendal’s crown, a place to lose yourself to the moment. Full of immersive art installations, interactive pieces and some amazing music to boot, a wander through the woodlands to transport yourself to a different realm is essential.
catch a secret set in tim peaks
Tim Burgess’ brainchild has become a cornerstone of Kendal Calling, serving up delicious coffee, tea and of course an eclectic mix of culture, music and party vibes. Tim Peaks is the diner of dreams and as such attracts some of the biggest acts in the musical world to play but you’ll have to be eagled-eyed to catch them! The Libertines, Blossoms, The Coral and the legendary Edwyn Collins have all rocked up to play a secret show in recent years, keep your ears to the ground for these ‘I was there’ moments.
Don a costume and join the saturday parade!
Seasoned Kendal Callers will know about our Saturday parade, a cascade of performers roaming across the festival site, bringing musical delights and a feast for the eyes! The perfect way to kickstart the day (alongside a cuppa, of course) the Parade has become a true festival highlight in recent years and is not one to miss!
belt out the hits to a headliner!
It’s what you spend all day waiting for! Whether you’re watching the next big thing in Calling Out or your right down in front of the main stage – make sure to sing your heart out to some classics while you’re in the fields!
join in the jam!
Fancy shredding out a righteous guitar solo or perhaps your more suited to a tambourine? Well, with experience of any level, you can jump in for a performance in the Jam Tent! We’ve even had the odd famous face stop by in the past to lend a helping hand…
sup on some of the finest real ales!
With over 15 different ales across the festival, we like to think we have something for everyone! This is also your one chance in the year to get yourself a pint of delicious Kend’ale – Lancaster Breweries special festival ale – an opportunity we wouldn’t miss for the world!
party the night away!
The party doesn’t finish with the headliners! There is plenty to do after dark at Kendal Calling, whether you want to belt out the indie bangers in Calling Out, experience a silent disco surrounded by Woodlands or rave the night away with legendary dance acts like Andy C – there is plenty left to experience after the sun goes down.
travel the globe in chai wallahs!
Chai’s unique touring tent has played host to some of the greatest afrobeat, funk, reggae and hip hop on the planet over the last 16 years. Expect amazing sounds from all corners of the planet, plus with the real ale tent right next door, you’re in pole position for a party!
take the little ones to kids calling!
From craft workshops to circus skills, story telling to face painting and everything in between! There is always something going on to keep the next generation of Kendal Callers entertained while you take a minute to relax from the hustle and bustle of festival life.
relax, take it easy…
Speaking of relaxation, The Garden of Eden returns to Kendal this year! Away from the electric atmosphere and the beat of the music, you’ll find an area of serenity and healing. Feeling a bit sore from a hard night of partying? From yoga to massages, we’ll melt those worries away… before you get back out there and do it all over again!
settle down for a film…
A cinema in a field? You’ve gotta be joking?! Well, we aren’t! Showing a selection of classics across the weekend, take yourself away from the busy festival life to chill out and watch one of the all-time-greats on the big screen.
sample the finest food!
It’s not just a burger and fries you’ll find in the fields but a smorgasbord of cuisine from around the world! Everything from bao buns to classic Neapolitan pizza – work your way through some of the greatest food from all corners of the globe. It’s a food festival within a music festival!
have the time of your life!
Whatever you do over KC weekend, whether you’re dashing from act to act, chilling out with a pint in the woods, or simply kicking back with a tin at camp – we know you’re going to have the most amazing time – nothing can beat the reunion of our festival family for the first time in three years! See you in the fields!
